The Burroughs High School varsity boys’ volleyball team swept visiting Glendale High, 25-18, 25-16, 25-14, in a Pacific League match on April 16.
Jae Kung racked up 32 assists and three aces, Noah Duffield registered 12 kills, and Benji Ly finished with 10 kills.
The Bears competed in the Karch Kiraly Tournament of Champions on April 12 and 13, finishing with a 1-3 record. Burroughs was swept by Del Norte High of San Diego, 22-25, 16-25, 23-25, and Sanger, 15-25, 25-27, 18-25, in a pair of tournament matchups on April 13. The Bears were swept by Newport Harbor High of Newport Beach, 23-25, 21-25, 16-25, to end the first day of tournament play on April 12 after posting a three-game victory over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 25-22, 25-23, 25-20, in its tournament opener. Individual statistics were not reported to the Leader.
Burroughs picked up a four-game victory over visiting Pasadena, 25-23, 25-12, 21-25, 25-21, in a Pacific League match on April 11.
Caiden Shrode was credited with 35 assists, while Ly racked up 21 kills. Duffield chipped in nine kills, Nathan Spratt tallied seven kills and Nathan Kameya collected 14 digs.
The Bears (23-9 overall, 7-2 in league) hosted Crescenta Valley High for its regular-season finale on April 18; the match ended after the Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 20 at 11 a.m.
BURBANK
The Bulldogs recently competed in the Crescenta Valley Tournament and finished with a 0-4 record. Burbank lost in three games to La Cañada, 13-25, 25-23, 11-15, in their tournament finale on April 13.
Burbank was swept by Chaminade High of West Hills, 17-25, 18-25. The Bulldogs also suffered a pair of three-game losses against Flintridge Prep of La Cañada Flintridge, 25-19, 12-25, 12-15, Taft High of Woodland Hills,16-25, 25-21, 7-15, to open tournament play of April 12. Individual statistics were not reported to the Leader.
Burbank (4-15, 2-6) hosted Arcadia for its regular-season finale on April 18; the Pacific League match ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on April 20 at 11 a.m.
