Burbank Edges Hoover in League Opener

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ water polo team posted a narrow 8-6 victory at Hoover High in Glendale in its Pacific League opener on Sept. 26 as senior Alec Chalkdzhyan racked up 13 saves, one steal and one assist.

Junior Daniel Agazaryan finished with three goals, one assist and one steal, while junior Avet Avetisyan tallied two goals and one assist. Senior Andranik Bilbulyan chipped with in two assists and one goal, sophomore Jack Babelyan produced one goal and one steal, and senior Alex Kobalyan scored one goal. Senior Hayk Atanasyan contributed three steals and one assist, freshman Avvo Ilangesyan had one steal and one assist, and senior Arthur Saryan grabbed one steal.

The Bulldogs lost at Buena High in Ventura 11-7 in a nonleague game on Sept. 21 as Chalkdzhyan finished with 12 saves and two steals.

Avetisyan scored four goals, Bilbulyan chipped in two goals and one steal, and Babelyan had one goal. Atanasyan tallied three assists and one steal, while Agazaryan contributed two steals and one assist. Saryan produced one assist and one steal, Ilangesyan recorded one steal and Kobalyan was credited with one assist.

Burbank (11-3 overall, 1-0 in league) will host Muir High of Pasadena for a league contest on Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. before visiting Arcadia on Oct. 5.

BURROUGHS

Burroughs High School’s lan Duffield, pictured in a game earlier this season, recorded four goals and three assists during a nonleague game against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame on Sept. 21.

The Bears lost at Arcadia 16-3 in their Pacific League opener on Sept. 26.

Liam Remelius produced seven saves, Ian Duffield chipped in two goals and one assist, and Harrison Siegel tallied two steals and one goal. Logan Turla finished with two steals and one assist, while Dean Yuzna had one steal.

Burroughs fell to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 13-12 in a nonleague game on Sept. 21.

Duffield collected four goals, three assists, two steals and one block, while Siegel contributed four goals, three steals, one block and one assist. Atticus Mata racked up 10 saves, while Turla registered two goals and one steal. Nicola Nasev was credited with one goal and one assist, Yuzna tallied two steals and one assist, and Tyler Jones had two assists.

The Bears (7-10, 0-1) will host Hoover High of Glendale for a league game on Oct. 3 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Glendale on Oct. 5.
