Singles Play Sparks Burbank

The singles players from the Burbank High School varsity girls’ tennis team did not drop a set in the Bulldogs’ Pacific League match against rival Burroughs High.

Sena Hammel, Mira Hammel and Daphne Harbaugh all swept their sides as Burbank defeated Burroughs 17-1 on Sept. 26.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was No. 1 singles Sena Hammel, who posted impressive victories with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0. No. 2 singles Mira Hammel won in straight sets just like her sister, with scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1. No. 3 singles Daphne Harbaugh contributed with set victories by scores of 6-3, 6-0 and 6-4.

In doubles action, Burbank’s No. 1 team of Brianna Kobramasihi and Chase Harris swept their matches with scores of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-1. The No. 2 pairing of Molly Foenander and Chihiro Kato won two sets with identical scores of 6-2. Meanwhile, Burroughs’ No. 1 tandem of October Siems and Ashley Sinovai picked up a victory for their squad with a score of 6-4.

The Bulldogs will host Hoover High of Glendale for a league match on Oct. 3 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Pasadena High on Oct. 5. Meanwhile, the Bears will host Arcadia in a league contest on Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m. before visiting Hoover High in Glendale on Oct. 5.
