Bulldogs, Bears Lose Regular Season Finals

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ volleyball team lost at Pasadena, 3-1, in its regular-season final last Thursday.

Senior Austin Kim and junior Ryan Viyar each registered 12 kills while senior Noah Lintag recorded 11 kills. Junior Taiyo Nakao tallied seven kills, sophomores Serengeti Harb and Sam Jurman each produced three kills, and junior Akash Kodavati had two kills.

The Bulldogs finished the season fifth in league with a 3-7 record (12-22 overall).

BURROUGHS

The Bears competed in the Redondo Classic last weekend and finished with a 1-3 record. JBHS defeated Sage Creek High of Carlsbad, 25-21, 25-22; but suffered losses to South High of Torrance, 25-22, 27-25; Mira Costa High of Manhattan Beach, 25-17, 25-16; and Loyola High of Los Angeles.

The Bears were previously swept in a league match at league champion Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta, 25-17, 25-20, 25-21. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

Burroughs, which finished the season tied for second in league with a 7-3 record (12-11 overall), recently visited South High for its CIF-Southern Section Division II first-round opener; the match ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Bears would advance to the second round today against either Tesoro High of Rancho Santa Margarita (17-5) or Santa Margarita of Rancho Santa Margarita (14-10).
