Bears Edge Bulldogs, 3-2, in Regular Season Finale

Junior Stevie Dabbadie helped propel the Burroughs High School varsity softball team over host Burbank High, 3-2, in an intracity Pacific League game last Thursday.

Dabbadie capped her and the Bears’ regular-season finale by blasting a solo go-ahead home run in the top of the seventh while finishing with a pair of doubles and an additional RBI. She also pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs on five hits with six walks and five strikeouts.

Senior Kelsey Acosta finished 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, sophomore Gizelle Rangsiyawong collected a base hit and a run scored, and seniors Kiley Christopher and Isabella Scozzola each added a base hit.

JBHS, which finished third in the Pacific League with an 8-5 record (18-10 overall), opened its CIF-SS Division IV postseason run by traveling to Santa Clara High of Oxnard on Thursday, May 5, for a first-round matchup; the result was unavailable by the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Bears would advance to the second round and meet either Dos Pueblos High of Goleta (21-5 overall) or Lancaster (14-7 overall) on Tuesday, May 10.

The Bulldogs were edged by visiting intracity rival Burroughs, 3-2, in a Pacific League game last Thursday. No individual statistics were reported to the Burbank Leader.

Burbank, which finished fourth in the league standings with a 5-8 record (12-16 overall), opened its CIF-SS Division IV postseason bid by traveling to Temple City in a first-round matchup on Thursday, May 5; the result was unavailable by the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Bulldogs would advance to the second round and meet either South El Monte (19-5 overall) or Mayfair High of Lakewood (14-10 overall) on Tuesday, May 10.
