Lois Marie Futrell, age 90, formerly of Santa Clarita, California passed away June 10, 2023 in Sandy, Utah. Born June 21, 1932, in Sacramento, California, she was the middle daughter of the late Max and Irene Compton.
Lois was a devoted teacher in the Merced City School District, Los Angeles Unified School District, and Burbank Unified School District where she retired after 42 years. She earned her master’s degree and later became an ESL teacher. Lois also received countless awards and accolades throughout her teaching career. All while raising five children.
Lois was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She lived her life demonstrating unconditional Christlike love to her family and her community. She never gave up the chance to help those that were in need and enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer her time. One of many organizations she gave her service to was Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry for 13 years.
Lois loved gardening, reading, and playing the piano and violin. These loves have been passed on to those around her. Her favorite place to vacation was the family cabin in the High Sierra Mountains. Lois enjoyed sitting on the deck reading or down in the river swimming and kayaking.
Lois is survived by her husband and high school sweetheart, Marvin Braxton Futrell, married June 21, 1953, for 69 beautiful years and 5 children: Ann (Matt) Stevens, Doug (Sid) Futrell, Joan (Tony) Schmidt, Karen (Paul) Tervort, Gregory (Tamra) Futrell. Further survived by 19 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, her older sister Tollis Zuber, and many nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her father, mother, her in-laws (James and Mamie Futrell), and younger sister Maxine Pinkerton.
Funeral service will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, at 27827 Skycrest Cir. Valencia, Ca. 91354 on Saturday July 29, 2023, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Graveside service with be on Saturday July 29, 2023, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, 23287 North Sierra Hwy Newhall, Ca 91321.
