This summer is bringing a return to travel for many people. Whether one is traveling by plane, taking a road trip or having guests this summer, the Burbank Public Library’s eLibrary is a great option for accessing a wide selection of multilingual reading, viewing and listening content without having to visit a library location.
Burbank Public Library offers several options:
• The Libby app has eBook, eAudiobooks and eMagazines
• hoopla has both, plus comics and streaming video and music
• Kanopy features a large streaming video collection, including the Criterion Collection and the Great Courses educational series
• Tumblebooks features eBooks for the youngest readers with read-along options
• PressReader includes thousands of newspapers from the region and around the world
These combined collections provide access to more than a million different items, more than twice the size of the library’s physical collections.
This reflects changes in how people are accessing their reading and viewing materials, trends that the pandemic greatly accelerated. Physical books and movies are still essential and a big part of the library. Especially for children, the tactile experience of a book is key to learning how to read and absorbing information, and many people of all ages still prefer it.
The eLibrary has its benefits, too, though. With any of these resources, readers can have new content at their fingertips within a few minutes, wherever they are.
