A driver died this week in a vehicular collision near Front Street and Magnolia Boulevard that police believe involved speeding.
Burbank police and paramedics arrived at the intersection at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the Burbank Police Department, after receiving a report regarding a serious traffic collision involving two vehicles. When police officers arrived, the BPD said, they located one male with significant injuries seated in the driver’s seat of a blue-colored sedan.
Though first responders tried to extract and give aid to the driver, the BPD added, authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in his vehicle.
Officers also found a female with serious injuries seated in a white-colored SUV, which had no other occupants. The female was transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses near the scene reported seeing the blue sedan driving at a high rate of speed before the collision occurred, the BPD said.
The department noted that it is unknown whether drugs, alcohol or a combination of both were factors in this collision. The BPD said that unsafe speed is likely a contributing factor to the collision.
The BPD was working this week with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office to identify the male driver and notify his next of kin.
