Softball: Reyes Powers Bears to Nonleague Win

The Burroughs High School varsity softball team overwhelmed visiting Harvard-Westlake High of Studio City with an 8-0 nonleague victory on March 5. Freshman Valentina Reyes pitched a complete game shutout, allowing seven hits and two walks with one strikeout across seven innings in the circle.

Senior Phoebe Spangler went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, a run and a stolen base, while junior Chloe Centeno went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Sophomore Karlee Earl went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs, while senior Gizelle Rangsiyawong went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run. Junior Alyssa Morales registered a base hit and two runs, senior Alyssa Rosales contributed a hit and an RBI, and senior Eliza Torres and freshman Alissa Cortez each tallied a base hit. Senior Lily Essakhanian scored once, while senior Skylar Vanole walked once.

Earl registered a double and an RBI, while Centeno recorded a double. Rosales finished with a hit and an RBI, while sophomore Karisma Mendez produced a base hit. Torres had four walks, while Morales walked once.

Burroughs (7-3 overall) will visit Arcadia for its Pacific League opener on March 12 at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Pasadena on March 14.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs edged visiting Kennedy High of Granada Hills 1-0 in a nonleague game on March 4. Junior Maddison Kellogg pitched a complete game shutout with 15 strikeouts, one hit and one walk.

Junior Charley Barnett went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a run, while senior Kara Valencia recorded a double. Senior Belinda Lujano produced a hit and an RBI, while senior Eliza Bowren and sophomore Kayla Orozco each had a base hit.

Burbank was shut out by visiting Canyon High of Santa Clarita 1-0 in a nonleague game on Feb. 29, as Kellogg pitched a complete game with 16 strikeouts.

Junior Olivia Orozco went 2-for-3, freshman Chloe Updike, Kayla Orozco and Valencia each tallied a base hit, and junior Samantha Cafferty and Barnett each walked once.

The Bulldogs (5-4 overall) will host Hoover High of Glendale for its Pacific League opener on March 12 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting Arcadia on March 14.
