Bears Edge Crescenta Valley, Bulldogs Rout Pasadena

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ water polo team crushed host Pasadena 28-6 in a Pacific League game on Oct. 10.

Junior Alex Vardanyan amassed eight goals, one steal and one assist, while sophomore Jack Babelyan racked up six steals, four goals and three assists. Senior Michael Misakyan contributed three goals, three assists and two steals, senior Andranik Bilbulyan collected three goals, two assists and two steals, and senior Hayk Atanasyan tallied four assists and three goals. Senior Alex Kobalyan finished with four assists, two goals and two steals, while senior Arthur Saryan produced two goals and two assists. Junior Daniel Agazaryan chipped in two steals and one goal, while freshman Avvo Ilangesyan registered one goal and one steal. Junior Greg Baboudjian was credited with five assists and one steal, senior Alexander Mnatsakanyan recorded two saves, one assist and one steal, and senior Alec Chalkdzhyan notched one save and one steal. Sophomore Leo Khachaturian had two steals and one assist, while junior Avet Avetisyan scored one goal.

The Bulldogs recently competed in the Buena Tournament and finished with a 1-3 record after losing to Crespi High of Encino, 11-10, and Camarillo, 8-5, on the final day of tournament action on Oct. 7.

Burbank lost to Ventura 11-6 to end the first day of tournament play on Oct. 6.

Bilbulyan tallied three goals and one steal, Saryan recorded two goals, one assist and one steal, and Agazaryan finished with one goal and one steal. Atanasyan collected four steals and one assist, junior Christian Lazaryan made two saves, and Chalkdzhyan produced one save and one assist. Avetisyan finished with one assist and one steal, while Vardanyan was credited with one assist.

The Bulldogs picked up an 11-5 victory over Agoura in their tournament opener on Oct. 6.

Avetisyan scored four goals, while Bilbulyan chipped in three goals. Agazaryan produced two goals, while Saryan and Atanasyan each had one goal.

Burbank lost at Arcadia 13-10 in a league game on Oct. 5 as Chalkdzhyan racked up 15 saves and one steal.

Bilbulyan tallied three goals, two assists and two steals, while Avetisyan recorded three goals and one steal. Agazaryan finished with three steals, two goals and two assists, while Misakyan chipped in one goal and one assist. Ilangesyan registered two steals and one goal, Saryan produced one assist and one steal, and Atanasyan had two steals.

The Bulldogs (15-7 overall, 4-1 in league) will visit Sherman Oaks Notre Dame for a nonleague game on Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. before visiting rival Burroughs High on Oct. 17. Burbank will then conclude the regular season by competing in the Pacific League Tournament at Glendale High on Oct. 20, 24 and 26.

The Bears edged visiting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta 10-9 in a Pacific League showdown on Oct. 10 as Atticus Mata racked up 11 saves and four steals.

Harrison Siegel tallied two goals, four steals, one assist and one block, while Ian Duffield and Dean Yuzna each recorded two goals, one assist and one steal. Nicola Nasev finished with three assists, three steals and one goal, while Logan Turla produced one goal, one assist and one block. Tyler Jones registered one goal, one steal and one assist, Aiden Means collected one goal and one steal, and Nicolas Oporta had one steal.

Burroughs dominated host Glendale 16-6 in a league game on Oct. 6 as Mata contributed 11 saves and one steal.

Duffield racked up five goals, five assists and four steals, while Siegel finished with seven goals, one assist and one steal. Nasev tallied two assists, two steals and one goal, while Turla chipped in three steals and one goal. Caleb DuFour and Yuzna each scored one goal, while Oporta was credited with one assist.

Burroughs (11-10 overall, 4-1) will host crosstown rival Burbank for a league game on Oct. 17 at 3:45 p.m. before competing in the Pacific League Tournament.
