Arcadia Fends Off Bulldogs, Bears Top Pasadena

The Burbank High School varsity girls’ tennis team lost to visiting Arcadia 11-7 in a Pacific League match on Sept. 5.

No. 1 singles Sena Hammel swept her opponents by scores of 6-4, 6-1, 6-1, while No. 3 Mira Hammel picked up a pair of wins, 6-2, 7-5. No. 2 Bernadette Hovhanasyan won a set 7-6 (7-4)while the No. 1 doubles team of Brianna Kobramasihi and Daphne Harbaugh won one set, 6-4.

The Bulldogs previously beat host Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in La Cañada Flintridge in a nonleague matchup 15-3 as the singles platers swept their opposition.

No. 1 Sena Hammel (6-1, 6-1, 6-0), No. 2 Hovhanasyan (6-1, 6-1, 6-0) and No. 3 Mira Hammel (6-2, 6-0, 6-0) each swept and lost just two games each. The No. 2 team of Molly Foenander and Chihiro Kato swept their opponents with 6-4, 6-0, 6-0 scores. The No. 1 duo of Kobramasihi and Harbaugh won a pair of sets, 6-0, 6-2, while the No. 3 tandem of Gulim Seitimbetova and Ariana Khougaeva added a 7-5 victory.

The Bulldogs will host Pasadena for a league match on Sept. 12 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Muir High in Pasadena on Sept. 14.

BURROUGHS

The Bears beat host Pasadena 15-3 in their Pacific League opener on Sept. 5.

No. 1 Hannah Lewis and No. 2 Abigail Stell each swept their opponents by scores of 6-0, while No. 3 Alexandria Stoliker also earned a sweep with 6-0, 6-1, 6-1 scores.

JBHS will host Hoover High of Glendale in league match on Sept. 12 at 3:30 p.m. before visiting Glendale on Sept. 14.
