City Declares May 12 Anne Frank Day

At a May 9 City Council meeting, Mayor Konstantine Anthony (left) proclaimed May 12 Anne Frank Day in Burbank, honoring the life and legacy of Frank, a young Jewish girl who kept a historic diary during the Holocaust. Olivia Prince (middle) — whose birthday is also May 12 — was credited in helping to create Anne Frank Day in Los Angeles and Burbank. “On Anne Frank Day I hope students all over Burbank will learn that their voices are powerful, and that they can stand up against injustice whenever they see it,” Prince said during the meeting. Margrit Polak (right), founder of nonprofit Anne Frank L.A., and cofounder Harvey Shields (not pictured) also spoke. - Photo courtesy city of Burbank
