Bulldogs, Bears Compete in CIF Playoffs

The Burbank High School varsity softball team lost at Fillmore, 6-3, in its CIF-Southern Section Division IV first-round matchup on Wednesday. The Bulldogs squandered a 3-0 lead in the seventh inning as the home team scored six unanswered runs to walk off into the second round.

Junior Kara Valencia put Burbank up 2-0 with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning before senior Samantha Buckley slugged a solo home run in the seventh for a three-run advantage.

Burbank finished the campaign fourth in the Pacific League with a 5-5 record (15-11 overall).

The Pacific League champion Bears opened the CIF-Southern Section Division IV playoffs by hosting Buena High of Ventura yesterday; the game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue.

If victorious, JBHS (21-4 overall) would meet either Chino (12-13-1) or Paloma Valley (7-10) in the second round on Tuesday, May 9.
