Burbank, Burroughs Athletes Earn All-League Honors

The Pacific League recently released its all-league awards for boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, and girls’ water polo following the completion of the 2022-23 winter season.
Burbank and Burroughs high school athletes were recognized for their season-long accomplishments, hard work and outstanding contributions to their teams.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Burbank High senior captain Sattwik Banerjee received a first-team selection while junior Omar Payind earned an honorable mention. The Bulldogs finished the season tied for fifth in league with a 5-9 record (9-16 overall).
Burroughs’ Sam Horning received a first-team selection while Chase Kardosh earned an honorable mention. The Bears concluded the campaign seventh in league with a 4-10 record (10-18 overall).

Burbank High School senior Karen Casillas was named the Pacific League’s co-player of the year.
Burroughs High School senior Izzy Roderick received All-Pacific League first-team honors.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Burroughs senior Izzy Roderick received first-team honors, senior Ivana Razov earned a second-team selection and freshman Malia Harney was an honorable mention. Vicky Oganyan was named the co-coach of the year after guiding the Bears to a second-place finish in league with a 12-2 record (18-11 overall).
Burbank senior Karen Casillas was named the co-player of the year. Freshman Sahara Jackson received a second-team selection while Rheanna O’Campo earned an honorable mention. The Bulldogs finished the campaign third in league with a 9-5 record (15-14 overall).

Burroughs High School senior captain Julia Narmore received All-Pacific League first-team honors.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Burroughs senior captain Julia Narmore and sophomore Quiana Laughlin each received first-team honors. Senior captain Kelani Roy earned a second-team selection and senior captain Nicole Jimenez was an honorable mention. JBHS finished the season third in league with a 9-4-1 record (13-7-1 overall).
Burbank sophomore Maneh Nersesyan received a second-team selection while junior Sophie Peek earned an honorable mention. The Bulldogs concluded the campaign seventh in league with a 2-12 record (3-14 overall).

BOYS’ SOCCER

Burbank senior Gabriel Mier received first-team honors. Senior Garik Kirakosyan earned a second-team selection while senior Erik Gharibian was an honorable mention. The Bulldogs ended the campaign fifth in league with a 5-6-3 record (9-8-3 overall).
Burroughs’ Alex Loera received a second-team selection while senior Daniel Proano earned an honorable mention. The Bears finished the season sixth in league with a 3-8-3 record (7-10-3 overall).

Burroughs High School senior Nancy Baylor was named the Pacific League’s player of the year.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Burroughs senior Nancy Baylor was named the league’s player of the year while senior Mindy Hernandez, sophomore Ava Tomlinson and junior Anastasia Zubkoff each received first-team honors. Sophomore Sarah Metry earned a second-team selection while sophomore Audrey Willet was an honorable mention. Head coach Martin Ortega guided the Bears to a co-league title after finishing the campaign with an 8-1 record (14-9 overall).
Burbank senior Valentina Angel received a second-team selection while senior Makala Kelley earned an honorable mention. The Bulldogs ended the season seventh in league with a 1-8 record (7-14 overall).
