Bulldogs Lose to Glendale; Bears Open League With 3 Wins

The Burbank High School varsity baseball team saw its five-game win streak end after losing to visiting Glendale, 6-0, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.
Ryan Sebastion recorded two hits and a walk, Jimmy Cafferty, Julian Gonzalez and Danny Betancourt each had a base hit and Bryant Johnson walked once. Ben Castillo pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief while allowing two hits and no walks. Danny Edwards took the loss after allowing six runs (three earned) in 4.1 innings with four strikeouts.
The Bulldogs routed visiting Muir High of Pasadena, 13-1, in a league game last Friday as Cafferty struck out eight across three innings to earn the win. Edwards pitched two hitless and scoreless innings with three strikeouts while issuing one walk. Betancourt went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs, two runs and a walk, Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base, and Dylan Wierbilis went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Johnson registered a hit, three RBIs, a walk and a stolen base, Sebastion finished with a hit, an RBI, a walk, a stolen base and two runs, and Cafferty tallied a hit, a walk, a stolen base and two runs. Castillo recorded two walks, two RBIs and a run while Colby Bette produced a pair of RBIs. Jake Reyes scored twice while Ethan Lara and Edwards each walked once.
The Bulldogs previously picked up a 5-1 victory at Muir High in their league opener. Robert Snyder, who recorded a hit, a stolen base and a run at the plate, allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts in four innings to earn the win. Bette pitched a pair of hitless and scoreless innings with four strikeouts while issuing two talks to earn the save. Gonzalez registered a hit, four stolen bases, a walk and a run, Wierbilis tallied a hit, an RBI and a stolen base, and Johnson and Sebastion produced a hit and a stolen base. Betancourt finished with two walks, two stolen bases, an RBI and a run, Cafferty recorded two walks, two stolen bases and a run, and Castillo walked twice and scored a run.
Burbank (5-1 overall, 2-1 in league) will visit Pasadena on Tuesday, March 14, at 3:30 p.m.

Burroughs High School’s Nate Chapman went 1-for-3 with three RBIs to help the Bears beat Muir High in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.

Burroughs starting pitcher Zack Freck twirled a perfect game while retiring 13 of the 18 batters he faced on strikes to help the Bears blank visiting Muir High of Pasadena, 10-0, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.
Nate Chapman went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a run while Dylan Conhanan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
JBHS previously posted a pair of 10-0 victories over Hoover High of Glendale last week. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.
The Bears (5-4 overall, 3-0 in league) will visit Walnut for a nonleague game on Monday, March 13, at 3:30 p.m.
