Local Basketball Squads Open League Action

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ basketball team routed visiting Hoover High of Glendale, 56-12, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday. The Bears collected their third straight win and remained undefeated through two league games.
Senior Izzy Roderick poured in 15 points while senior Kylee Indefenzo recorded eight points, including a pair of threes. Sophomore Mariam Fahs tallied six points, freshman Malia Harney finished with five points, and juniors Mia Paz and Ashley Martin scored four points. Sophomore Skylar Cafferty and freshman Grace Barton each sank a 3-pointer, senior Rachel Little, junior Karly Geris and freshman Valentina Morales each had two points, and freshman Elizabeth Amoroso had one point.
The Bears defeated visiting Glendale, 29-24, in their league opener last Thursday, as Harney recorded 12 points and two rebounds. Senior Ivana Razov registered three points, eight rebounds, three blocks, three assists and two steals, Roderick finished with five points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal, and Indefenzo posted three points, two blocks and two rebounds. Fahs tallied two points, two blocks, two steals, one rebound and one assist, junior Natalie Sanchez produced two points and one rebound, and Cafferty had two points and one assist. Little collected four rebounds and one steal while Barton notched three rebounds. Morales tallied two rebounds, Amoroso had one rebound and freshman Anna Phillips had one steal.
The Bears previously routed visiting Cleveland High of Reseda in a tournament game, 63-19. Cafferty racked up 14 points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal while Roderick poured in eight points with three rebounds, two steals and one block. Little registered six points, one rebound and one assist, Harney tallied six points, two steals, two assists, one block and one rebound, and Amoroso produced six points, two steals and one assist. Morales recorded four points, 10 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal, while Paz finished with four points and three rebounds. Fahs posted three points, three assists, two steals and one rebound, Indefenzo had three points, three rebounds and one assist, and Phillips scored three points with two rebounds, one steal and one assist. Sanchez had two points, four rebounds, one block and one assist, Barton recorded two points, one steal and one assist, and Martin had two points, one assist and one rebound. Geris collected three steals, two rebounds and two assists while Razov finished with three assists, one rebound, one steal and one block.
JBHS (7-4 overall, 2-0 in league) will visit Pasadena for a league game on Thursday, Dec. 22, at 3:30 p.m.

BURBANK

Burbank High School’s Sahara Jackson racked up 16 points and seven assists as the Bulldogs beat Muir High in Pasadena in a Pacific League game.

The Bulldogs routed host Muir High in Pasadena, 46-17, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday, as Sahara Jackson racked up 16 points and seven assists. Nikaela Damasen drained three 3-pointers while Karen Casillas registered six points. Ava Casey scored five points, Alexandra Richins tallied four points, and Lauren Navarro and Rheanna Ocampo each had three points.
Burbank previously lost its league opener at Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta, 68-28, as Casillas recorded a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Jackson finished with six points, Ocampo sank a 3-pointer and Damasen had one point.
The Bulldogs (7-4 overall, 1-1 in league) will visit Hoover High in Glendale for a league game on Thursday, Dec. 22, at 5:30 p.m.
