Bears, Bulldogs Compete in Tournaments

The Burroughs High School varsity boys’ basketball team collected its second straight win by defeating visiting Pasadena Poly, 71-68, in a Burroughs Winter Tip-Off Tournament game on Tuesday.
Sam Horning, who scored 19 points in the third quarter, finished with a team-high 34 points, including eight 3-pointers. Chase Kardosh racked up 13 points, including three 3-pointers, while Elden Jackson poured in 11 points. Jagger Topp tallied seven points, Jacob Samontina sunk a pair of threes, and Landon Everheart had two points.
The Bears previously opened their tournament with an 80-55 victory over Marshall High of Los Angeles. Horning amassed 27 points, four rebounds and four assists, Kardosh racked up 21 points, two rebounds and two assists, and Topp poured in 14 points with three steals and three assists.
JBHS (4-2 overall) will conclude tournament play on Saturday, Dec. 3, before opening Pacific League action against visiting Glendale on Friday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m.

BURBANK
The Burbank High School varsity boys’ basketball team competed in the San Gabriel tournament, ending with a 66-52 victory over Gabrielino High of San Gabriel last Saturday. The Bulldogs previously lost a pair of tournament games to Salesian High of Los Angeles, 57-41, and Castaic, 42-21. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.
Burbank (2-4 overall) will open Pacific League action at Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta on Friday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m.
