Burroughs Edged in CIF Opener at Tahquitz, 50-47

The Burroughs High School varsity football team was ousted from the CIF-SS Division IX playoffs after losing a high-scoring first-round game at Tahquitz High in Hemet, 50-47, last Friday. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.
JBHS, which finished the season with a 7-4 overall record, tied as Pacific-Upper League runners-up with Muir High of Pasadena (3-2 records).
For the 2022 season, Bears junior quarterback Chris Kulikov completed 94 passes for 1,358 yards and rushed for 368 yards on 73 carries, producing 18 total touchdowns. Senior Marcus Manahan was Burroughs’ top rusher, amassing a team-high 588 yards and six touchdowns on 123 carries. He also had four receptions for 80 yards while adding 24 tackles, a sack and an interception on defense.
Senior Dilan Webster had 578 total yards on 28 receptions and seven carries with five touchdowns, while junior Ethan Hubbell recorded 348 total yards and four touchdowns on 16 receptions to go along with 20 tackles on defense. Junior Ryan Hernandez posted 218 total yards and a pair of touchdowns on 24 receptions and one carry. He also had 25 tackles, a team-high four interceptions for 40 yards and a sack on defense. Junior Jake Scozzola registered 135 total yards and three touchdowns on nine receptions, while junior Noah Frenkel finished with 126 total yards and one touchdown on seven receptions and eight carries with 20 tackles on defense. Senior Noah Crues led the team with 93 tackles, two sacks and a blocked field goal while adding 36 total yards on 11 carries. Junior Alex Valenzuela had 41 tackles and 34 yards on one reception, junior Santiago Sanchez posted 27 yards on one reception with 21 tackles on defense, and sophomore Julian Zubia recorded 23 total yards on five carries. Sophomore Rocco Mellilo finished with 20 total yards on one reception and one carry, senior Reznor Reeves registered 20 total yards on three receptions with 17 tackles and a sack on defense, and junior James Chamchuen had 7 total yards on one carry with three tackles on defense.
Senior Ricky Garcia racked up 71 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an interception, senior Collis Lurie registered 40 tackles, and senior Brian Noguchi had 34 tackles and an interception. Senior Anthony Solis-Torrico, sophomore Braden Turner and sophomore Patrick Lima each made 18 tackles, while junior Jayden Mowery finished with 17 tackles and 0.5 sacks. Junior Sonny Arana registered 17 tackles, junior Anthony Rodriguez made 15 tackles and junior Brody Beebe had 13 tackles. Junior Reese Shuton recorded nine tackles and a sack, senior Dillon Barnes had nine tackles, and junior Jaelin Smith made five tackles. Senior Jarrod Dilig registered four tackles, senior Cash Mimis and sophomore Colin Jimenez each made three tackles, and sophomore Peter Lingua had two tackles and a sack. Senior Robert Huynh, junior Adrian Sanchez and junior Brodie Kemp each had two tackles, while senior Stone Slothour, junior Matthew Ardon and junior Aeneas Pichardo each had one tackle.
