Bulldogs Win 12th Straight; Bears Edged by Glendale

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ water polo team collected its season-best 12th consecutive victory after defeating host Arcadia, 14-8, in a crucial Pacific League game on Tuesday. Junior goalie Alec Chalkdzhyan produced nine saves in the cage. Senior Zack Gezalyan tallied four goals, four steals and one assist, junior Raffi Gevorgyan collected four goals, three assists and two steals, and sophomore Gevorg Choginyan posted three goals, three assists and one steal. Senior Arman Hovhanissyan recorded one goal, three steals and three assists, junior Hayk Atanasyan registered one goal, two steals and one assist, and sophomore Danny Agazaryan scored once.
The Bulldogs previously routed host Muir High in Pasadena in a league game, 29-10, as Zack Gezalyan amassed a game-high nine goals and eight steals. Choginyan collected five goals, two assists and one steal, sophomore Eric Avetisyan produced five goals and one steal, and junior Andranik Bilbulyan posted three goals, four steals and one assist. Hovhanissyan recorded five assists, three steals and one goal, Junior Alex Kobalyan tallied two goals and three steals, and Atanasyan registered two goals and two assists. Junior Michael Misakyan had one goal, three steals and one assist, sophomore Jack Babelyan had one goal and one assist, and sophomore Greg Baboudjian scored once. Agazaryan had two assists and one steal, while senior Andy Gezalyan and junior Arthur Saryan each had one assist. Sophomore Christian Lazaryan finished with four saves and one steal, and Chalkdzhyan had one save.
Burbank (20-2 overall, 3-0 in league) will look to continue its dominance in the pool when it visits Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta for a league game on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 3:30 p.m.

BURROUGHS

Burroughs High School’s Liam Peak scored one goal to help the Bears defeat La Cañada last week in a nonleague matchup, 13-5.

The Bears lost their first Pacific League matchup on Tuesday after falling to visiting Glendale, 10-8. Harrison Zekowski, Harrison Siegel and Ryan Rolando each scored a pair of goals, while Logan Turla and Ian Duffield each had one goal.
JBHS dominated visiting La Cañada last Friday in a nonleague game, 13-5, as Siegel collected four goals. Zekowski produced three goals, Duffield finished with two goals, and Turla, Rodrigo Ramirez, Liam Peak and Jean Paul Medrano each tallied one goal.
The Bears previously defeated host Hoover High in Glendale, 15-8, as Zekowski and Siegel each led with four goals. Turla registered three goals, Duffield posted two goals and Rolando had one goal.
Burroughs (8-10 overall, 2-1 in league) will visit Muir High in Pasadena on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 3:30 p.m.
