Bulldogs, Bears Battle in League Matches

The Burbank High School varsity girls’ volleyball team was swept by visiting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta, 25-15, 25-21, 25-18, in a Pacific League match on Wednesday.
Senior Jazmine Cobb led with eight kills and 10 digs while junior Astoria Torres produced seven kills. Senior Quinn Cramer tallied four kills, three aces and six blocks, senior Jolene Ngo amassed 28 digs, and junior Olivia Romagnino had 22 digs and four aces. Senior Yara Khozahi and junior Addison Ritner each registered one kill, senior Alyssa Ponsones posted eight digs, and junior Raquel Fox finished with three aces.
The Bulldogs were swept at Glendale, 25-16, 25-16, 25-9, in a league matchup on Tuesday. Torres collected five kills and two blocks, while Cobb posted four kills and 11 digs. Cramer recorded three kills, eight blocks and one ace, Fox produced three kills, and Ngo racked up 16 digs. Ritner registered five blocks, Ponsones had six digs and six assists, and Romagnino tallied six digs, one assist and one ace. Junior Alison Molloy notched four digs, senior Isabella Barska finished with three digs and five assists, and Khozahi and senior Liana Issaian each had one dig.
Burbank defeated visiting Muir High of Pasadena, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23, last Thursday.
Cramer posted five kills and nine blocks, Ritner collected five kills, and Cobb tallied four kills and 10 digs. Fox recorded three kills and eight aces, while Molloy and Khozahi each produced a pair of kills. Ngo amassed 32 digs, four aces and one kill, Barska finished with 10 digs, and Romagnino and Ponsones each posted six digs, while the latter added 19 assists. Senior Liana Issaian had seven aces.
The Bulldogs (3-12 overall, 2-3 in league) are fourth in the standings and will continue league action at Arcadia on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 3:30 p.m.

BURROUGHS

Burroughs High School senior Janessa Wareebor had 16 kills over her last two matches to help the Bears move to 2-2 in league.

The Bears lost at Crescenta Valley, 25-16, 25-21, 25-16, in a Pacific League match on Tuesday. It was Burroughs’ first loss to CVHS since 2008, snapping a 25-match win streak against the Falcons.
Senior Janessa Wareebor collected nine kills, while senior Kara Aldana-Pere had four kills.
JBHS swept visiting Glendale, 25-13, 25-16, 25-17, last Thursday as junior Tawnie Ohrt led with 11 kills. Junior Sadie Lomet and Wareebor tallied eight and seven kills, respectively, while senior Elizabeth Johnson recorded six kills.
The Bears (3-8 overall, 2-2 in league) will host Pasadena in a league matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 3:30 p.m.
