The Burroughs High School baseball team offense was essentially held in check for much of the game in a 6-2 loss to Crescenta Valley on Tuesday in a Pacific League matchup.
Burroughs starting pitcher Nick Forrest kept CV off balance his first time through the order, allowing just two singles and striking out two. Multiple errors yielded three unearned runs allowed on five hits, to go along with three strikeouts and one walk over four innings of work.
“I thought he threw great,” Burroughs manager Matt Magallon said. “We made a couple errors behind him. He didn’t get hit hard. It was just unfortunate luck, and that’s baseball.”
CV fell victim to a defensive miscue of its own when a throwing error in the fifth inning allowed Burroughs’ Aidan Cremarosa to reach base. He came around to score on back-to-back singles from Forrest and Mason Medina.
Burroughs had jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Jarell Bijasa singled on the first pitch of the game, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Sebastian Zamora, and scored on a single from Andrew Chapman. However, Falcons pitching retired 16 of the next 19 Bears batters.
CV improved to 13-4 on the season and 7-0 in Pacific League play. The Falcons’ perfect league record kept them tied with Arcadia (5-0) and Burbank (7-0) atop the Pacific League standings entering Friday, when CV traveled to Burroughs to finish their home-and-home set.
Burroughs, meanwhile, fell to 3-3 in league play and are 3.5 games back of the leaders. The Bears are 5-8 overall on the season.
