HALA Bestows Burbank With Impact Award

The city of Burbank was honored with the 2024 Impact Award, recognized by the nonprofit Home Again L.A. at the organization’s 10th annual gala on May 10 at the Autry Museum of the American West.

The prestigious award recognizes Burbank’s significant contributions and steadfast partnership with HALA in the fight against homelessness.

“This award is not just a recognition of our past efforts but a reminder of the responsibilities we hold towards our community,” said Mayor Nick Schultz. “Together with HALA, we are making strides towards a future where homelessness is no longer a reality in our city. We are immensely proud of this partnership and what we have accomplished together.”

The gala welcomed more than 400 guests, which included community leaders and local dignitaries, who came together to celebrate HALA’s mission and impact across the region.

The nonprofit organization said that Burbank has been a key supporter of HALA since 2010, providing crucial funding and resources to bolster programs that offer rapid rehousing and support services to families experiencing homelessness in the area. In addition to these supportive services, in 2019, the city provided funding to renovate a three-unit complex for HALA families and helped the organization secure housing for 91 Burbank families, further solidifying its commitment to addressing homelessness in the community.

“Receiving the 2024 Impact Award from Home Again Los Angeles underscores the effectiveness of our collaborative efforts and the hard work that goes into addressing the critical issue of homelessness in our community,” said City Manager Justin Hess. “We are committed to continuing our support for HALA and ensuring that our interventions are both compassionate and impactful.”

During the same event, Barbara Lazar, who served as the Burbank Senior Planner for more than 30 years and as a HALA board member for seven years, was posthumously awarded the 2024 Hands on, Hearts In Award. Her dedication to developing the organization and its impact on countless lives continues to resonate through the community.
