Baseball: Burbank Blanks Burroughs in League Finale

The Burbank High School varsity baseball ended the regular season with a 4-1 nonleague loss against visiting Poly High of Sun Valley on April 27.

Thomas Angel and Michael Bui each went 2-for-3 with a double, while Adrian Vasquez tallied a double. Ryland LeClair recorded a hit and a run, while Jeremy Lee was credited with an RBI. Robert Snyder pitched 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts, Miklo Reynoso pitched 1 2/3 innings with a strikeout and Taylor Pryor pitched one inning with one strikeout.

The Bulldogs secured a narrow 1-0 Pacific League victory at Burroughs High on April 26 as Colby Bette pitched a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Snyder finished with a double, a run, a stolen base and a walk, while Nathan Zecena recorded a triple. Bryant Johnson produced a hit and an RBI, Ryan Sebastian had a base hit, and Bui and Reynoso each walked once.

Burbank, which finished the campaign fourth in league with a 7-7 record (8-14 overall), visited Corona del Mar High in Newport Beach (18-9) on May 3; the CIF Southern Section Division III first-round game ended after the Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. If victorious, the Bulldogs would advance to the second round against Grace High of Simi Valley (13-11) or St. John Bosco High in Bellflower (16-10) on May 7.

The Bears were no-hit in an 8-0 loss against visiting Ontario Christian in their CIF Southern Section Division IV opener on May 2.

Junior Kenny Montgomery pitched 3 2/3 innings with two strikeouts, senior Elvis Moreno pitched 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and sophomore Jack Guest pitched one inning with one strikeout. Senior Nate Chapman walked once and stole a base, junior Kyle Smith walked once and senior Nickolas Fritz stole a base.

Burroughs ended the regular season with a 1-0 Pacific League loss against visiting Burbank on April 26.

Freshman Elliot Ross went 2-for-3, while senior Brian Martinez and Chapman each tallied a base hit. Sophomore Ryan Walsh pitched five innings with four strikeouts, while sophomore Devin Whittekiend pitched two scoreless innings with one strikeout and no hits.

Burroughs finished the campaign third in league with an 11-3 record (19-7 overall).
