Baseball: Burroughs Stifles Glendale Behind Montgomery No-Hitter

The Burroughs High School varsity baseball team routed visiting Glendale 11-1 in a Pacific League game on March 26. Junior Kenny Montgomery pitched a six-inning no-hitter with seven strikeouts, five walks and one unearned run.

Senior Nate Chapman went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs and a stolen base, senior Nickolas Fritz went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and three runs, and sophomore Devin Whittekiend went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, two runs and a walk. Sophomore Logan Drossin registered a hit, two RBIs, two runs, two stolen bases and a walk, while senior Brian Martinez produced a hit, two RBIs, a walk and a stolen base. Junior Kyle Smith finished with a hit, two RBIs and a walk, while senior Dylan Conahan tallied a base hit. Senior Chris Perez contributed two walks, an RBI and a run, while freshman Elliot Ross walked twice.

The Bears secured a narrow 2-1 victory over visiting La Cañada in a nonleague game on March 21.

Senior Elvis Moreno retired all six batters in order across two innings of relief with three strikeouts to earn the win. Sophomore Ryan Walsh pitched a perfect inning of relief with two strikeouts to earn a save, and Smith pitched four innings with five strikeouts. Chapman and Conahan each recorded a hit, a run and a stolen base, while Fritz tallied a hit and an RBI. Whittekiend finished with a hit and a walk, while Drossin walked twice and stole a base.

Burroughs (13-2 overall, 6-1 in league) will resume league play at Pasadena on April 9 at 3:45 p.m. before hosting the Bulldogs on April 12.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs lost to visiting Pasadena, 3-2, in a Pacific League game on March 26.

Robert Snyder, who had a hit, a run and a walk at the plate, pitched 6 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts. Colby Bette pitched three innings with seven strikeouts, while Miklo Reynoso pitched one-third of an inning. Nathan Zecena went 3-for-4 with a double and a stolen base, while Jacob Angel went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Ryan Sebastian produced a double, a run and a walk, while Jake Reyes and Jake Dibie each tallied a base hit.

Burbank (3-8, 2-4) will host Agoura for a nonleague game on April 2 at 3:30 p.m. before visiting Sierra Canyon High in Chatsworth on April 6.
