Softball: Burroughs Cruises to Pacific League Win

The Burroughs High School varsity softball team defeated visiting Chaminade High of West Hills 8-4 in a nonleague game on March 15 as senior Emerson Coblentz pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts.

Senior Phoebe Spangler went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two stolen bases, an RBI and a run, junior Chloe Centeno went 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs, and junior Alyssa Morales went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and a walk. Sophomore Karlee Earl recorded a double, two RBIs and a run, senior Gizelle Rangsiyawong produced a double, an RBI, a run and a walk, and senior Alyssa Rosales contributed a double, an RBI and a stolen base. Freshman Sophie Rangsiyawong walked twice, scored a run and stole a base, while freshman Chloe Zavala finished with stolen a base.

The Bears routed visiting Pasadena with a 17-0 Pacific League victory on March 14 as freshman Valentina Reyes pitched a three-inning perfect game with five strikeouts.

Coblentz recorded a three-run home run, while Spangler finished with a solo home run. Senior Skylar Vanole went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, while Centeno went 2-for-2 with a double and a run. Sophomore Karisma Mendez went 2-for-2 with three runs, an RBI and a walk, while Zavala went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Senior Lily Essakhanian registered a double, two RBIs and a run, while Earl contributed a hit, three RBIs and a run. Rosales tallied a hit and an RBI, while Sophie Rangsiyawong was credited with a hit and a run. Gizelle Rangsiyawong scored twice, while Morales scored once.

Burroughs (14-3 overall, 2-0 in league) will visit Hoover High in Glendale for a league game on March 26 at 3:45 p.m. before traveling to Camarillo on March 27.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs lost to Sierra Vista High of Baldwin Park 8-2 in a Santa Fe Tournament game on March 16. Burbank suffered another 8-2 loss against San Fernando in a tournament game earlier that same day.

The Bulldogs previously lost to visiting Arcadia 1-0 in a Pacific League game on March 14. Individual statistics were not reported to the Leader.

Burbank (7-8, 1-1) will host Camarillo for a nonleague game on March 25 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Pasadena on March 26.

Burbank High School junior Samantha Cafferty and the Bulldogs will host Camarillo for a nonleague game on March 25.
