The Burroughs High School varsity softball team defeated host Arcadia 7-2 in its Pacific League opener on March 12 as senior Emerson Coblentz pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts.
Senior Phoebe Spangler went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, three RBIs, a run and a stolen base, while senior Gizelle Rangsiyawong went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two RBIs, two runs and a walk. Junior Chloe Centeno went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base, while sophomore Karlee Earl went 2-for-4 with a run. Junior Alyssa Morales tallied a base hit, freshman Sophie Rangsiyawong walked once and stole a base, and senior Skylar Vanole scored a run.
The Bears secured a 10-4 victory against previously unbeaten Schurr High of Montebello to win the Laguna Hills Tournament on March 9. Coblentz pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts.
Gizelle Rangsiyawong went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and two runs, while Spangler went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run. Earl went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, Centeno recorded a two-run home run, and Morales went 3-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base. Senior Alyssa Rosales tallied a base hit, senior Eliza Torres walked once and scored a run, and freshman Chloe Zavala scored a run and stole a base.
Burroughs shut out Laguna Hills 12-0 in a tournament game on March 9. Freshman Valentina Reyes pitched a four-inning complete game shutout with five strikeouts.
Gizelle Rangsiyawong went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs, while Earl went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and a walk. Zavala registered finished with a hit, three runs and two walks, while senior Lily Essakhanian contributed a hit and three RBIs. Coblentz collected a hit, two RBIs and a run, while Centeno produced a hit and two RBIs. Sophie Rangsiyawong recorded a hit and two runs, while sophomore Karisma Mendez tallied a hit. Freshman Alissa Cortez had three walks and three runs, while Torres walked once.
Burroughs routed Crean Lutheran High of Irvine 16-0 in a tournament game on March 7 as Coblentz pitched three scoreless innings with five strikeouts, one hit and no walks.
Spangler went 2-for-2 with a home run four RBIs and two runs, while Gizelle Rangsiyawong went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, three RBIs and a run. Vanole went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs, two runs and a walk, Sophie Rangsiyawong went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run, and Zavala went 2-for-2 with three runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Centeno recorded a double, two runs and a stolen base, Reyes finished with a hit and an RBI, and Rosales contributed a hit and a walk. Torres was credited with an RBI, a run and a walk, Earl tallied two runs and an RBI, and Cortez walked once.
The Bears no-hit Rialto in a 12-0 tournament-opening victory on March 7. Coblentz pitched two innings with four strikeouts and one walk, while Reyes pitched two perfect innings.

Burroughs (12-3 overall, 1-0 in league) will visit Hoover High in Glendale for a league match on March 26 at 3:45 p.m. before traveling to Camarillo on March 27.
BURBANK
The Bulldogs overwhelmed visiting Hoover High of Glendale 11-2 in their Pacific League opener on March 12.
Burbank secured a 6-2 victory over Diamond Bar in a Santa Fe Tournament game on March 9. The Bulldogs lost to J.W. North High of Riverside 8-2 in their tournament opener earlier that day. Individual statistics were not reported to the Leader.
The Bulldogs (7-5, 1-0) will host Camarillo for a nonleague game on March 25 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Pasadena on March 26.
