Baseball: Bears Win Third Straight, Bulldogs Top Glendale

The Burroughs High School varsity baseball team defeated host Muir High in Pasadena 4-2 in a Pacific League game on March 12.

Junior Kenny Montgomery pitched 3 2/3 innings with four strikeouts, while sophomore Jack Guest pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no walks. Senior Chris Perez went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while senior Nate Chapman went 2-for-3 with, a run, a stolen base and a walk. Senior Brian Martinez registered a hit, a run and a stolen base, while senior Dylan Conahan contributed a hit and a stolen base. Freshman Elliot Ross tallied three walks and two runs, while junior Kyle Smith walked once.

The Bears routed visiting Hoover High of Glendale 21-4 in a league game on March 8.

Sophomore Logan Drossin went 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, four runs, an RBI and a walk, junior Andrew Cosio went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, two RBIs, two runs and a walk, and senior Willan Armes went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Sophomore Zack Guevara went 2-for-2 with four RBIs and a run, while sophomore Devin Whittekiend went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs and two stolen bases. Chapman went 2-for-2 with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI, sophomore Jack Smith went 2-for-2 with two runs and two walks, and Ross went 2-for-2 with two runs. Senior Tommy Vournas finished with a triple and a run, while Conahan registered a hit, a run, a walk and a stolen base. Senior Nickolas Fritz contributed three stolen bases, two runs and an RBI, while senior Connor Nestor and sophomore Ryan Walsh were each credited with an RBI. Kyle Smith pitched two innings with three strikeouts, senior Elvis Moreno pitched two innings with one strikeout and senior Anthony Morse pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and no hits.

Burroughs (8-2 overall, 4-1 in league) will host Excelsior Charter of Victorville for a nonleague doubleheader on March 19 at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. before hosting La Cañada on March 21.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs secured a 7-5 Pacific League victory at Glendale on March 12. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

Burbank lost at Castaic 8-0 in a nonleague game on March 9.

Co-captain Robert Snyder pitched five innings with three strikeouts and no walks, while Adrian Vasquez pitched a scoreless inning of relief with a pair of strikeouts and no walks. Co-captain Miklo Reynoso recorded a double, Ryan Sebastian and Jake Reyes each tallied a base hit, and co-captain Colby Bette walked once.

The Bulldogs (3-6, 2-2) will host Pasadena for a league game on March 26 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Pasadena on March 29.
