Burroughs Boys’ Basketball Exit Playoffs in First Round

The Burroughs High School varsity boys’ basketball team lost at Costa Mesa 86-77 in its CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA opener on Feb. 7 as senior Chase Kardosh racked up 29 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Junior Landon Everhart poured in 12 points with nine rebounds and three steals, junior Jacob Samontina tallied 11 points, four steals, four rebounds, four assists and one block, and senior Omar Payind recorded 10 points, two rebounds, one block and one steal. Senior Arthur Gabrieylan chipped in six points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal, junior Jagger Topp contributed five points, three steals, two rebounds and one assist, and junior Elijah Orjuela finished with five rebounds, four points, two steals and two assists.

The Bears finished the campaign fourth in league with a 6-8 record (15-14 overall).

BURBANK VS. BURROUGHS

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ basketball team includes (listed alphabetically) Kamran Alborzian, Arthur Ambaryan, Areg Aslanyan, Odartey Blankson, Kevin Dehbashian, Blake Finnigan, Sean Garrett, Anthony Jawiche, Isaiah Kim, Rami Khozahi, Aren Malekian, Nico Nazaryan, Nicolas Niazi, Cristopher Ong, Jonathan Ong and Beckett Sandaas.

Burroughs defeated host Burbank 69-54 in its regular season and Pacific League finale on Feb. 1.

The Bears were led by Everhart, who posted a double-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and one assist.

Payind poured in 18 points with seven rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Kardosh registered 14 points, three rebounds, one steal and one assist. Topp tallied six points, three steals, one rebound and one assist, while Samontina contributed seven rebounds, six assists, five points, three steals and one block. Gabrieylan chipped in three points and one rebound, Orjuela had two points, one rebound and one assist, and sophomore Evan Lanier collected one rebound.

Meanwhile, Burbank junior Odartey Blankson racked up a game-high 27 points with 15 rebounds and a pair of steals.

Junior Kamran Alborzian poured in 12 points with four steals and three rebounds, junior Kevin Dehbashian finished with nine points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal, and junior Arthur Ambaryan tallied 16 rebounds, seven points, two assists and one block. Sophomore Cristopher Ong recorded three assists, two rebounds and one steal, junior Areg Aslanyan collected three rebounds, and senior Beckett Sandaas was credited with one assist.

The Bulldogs finished the campaign eighth in league with a 2-12 record (6-22 overall).
