Blankson Helps Burbank Boys’ Basketball Snap Losing Streak

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ basketball team snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 66-64 Pacific League victory at Hoover High in Glendale on Jan. 30 as junior Odartey Blankson racked up 30 points, seven rebounds and one assist.

Junior Kevin Dehbashian poured in 16 points with four assists and one rebound, while sophomore Cristopher Ong registered eight points, three rebounds and two steals. Junior Kamran Alborzian tallied seven rebounds, six points, two assists and one steal, sophomore Anthony Jawiche chipped in four points, three steals, one block and one rebound, and junior Arthur Ambaryan contributed six rebounds, two points and two assists. Junior Areg Aslanyan recorded two rebounds, while senior Beckett Sandaas had one rebound.

The bulldogs lost to visiting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta 65-54 in a league game on Jan. 26.

Blankson poured in 20 points with nine rebounds and two steals, Dehbashian registered 15 points, eight rebounds and one assist, and Alborzian produced 10 points, four rebounds and one assist. Aslanyan chipped in five points and three rebounds, while Ambaryan finished with eight rebounds, four assists, two points and one steal. Ong recorded two assists, one steal and one rebound, while Sandaas collected one rebound.

Burbank (6-21 overall, 2-11 in league) hosted Burroughs High for its regular season finale on Feb. 1; the league game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released Feb. 4 at noon. If qualified, the Bulldogs will compete in the Division IV-A bracket.

Burroughs High School junior Jagger Topp posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds during a Pacific League matchup against Muir High on Jan. 30.

The Bears lost to visiting Muir High of Pasadena 73-64 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 30, as senior Chase Kardosh racked up 20 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal.

Junior Elijah Orjuela poured in 16 points with four rebounds and two steals, while junior Jagger Topp posted a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two assists. Junior Landon Everhart registered nine rebounds, seven points, three steals, two blocks and two assists, while senior Omar Payind recorded seven rebounds, six points, five steals, two assists and one block. Junior Jacob Samontina chipped in three points and two rebounds, while senior Francesco Sabato had one rebound.

Burroughs picked up a 67-63 league victory over visiting Hoover High of Glendale on Jan. 26, as Everhart posted a double-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and one steal.

Kardosh poured in 17 points with three rebounds, one steal and one assist, senior Arthur Gabrieylan tallied 13 points, five rebounds and two steals, and Topp finished with nine points, five assists, two rebounds and one steal. Orjuela chipped in three points and two rebounds, while Samontina recorded four assists, two points, one steal and one rebound. Sophomore Evan Lanier contributed three rebounds and two points, Payind registered four rebounds, two points and one steal, and Sabato produced one point and one rebound.

Burroughs (14-13, 5-8) visited Burbank for its regular-season finale on Feb. 1; the league game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue.
