Burroughs Fends Off Burbank in Rivalry Game

The Burroughs High School varsity boys’ basketball team edged visiting Burbank 74-73 in a Pacific League game on Jan. 12.

Senior captain Chase Kardosh led the Bears with 27 points, four assists, two steals and two rebounds. Junior teammate Landon Everhart posted a double-double with 24 points, 12 rebounds, four steals, three assists and one block, while junior Jacob Samontina poured in 18 points with five assists, two steals and two rebounds. Junior captain Jagger Topp finished with four rebounds, three points, three steals and one assist, while senior Omar Payind tallied five rebounds, two points and one assist. Junior Elijah Orjuela recorded one steal and one assist, while sophomore Evan Baker had two rebounds.

Meanwhile, for the Bulldogs, junior Odartey Blankson racked up a game-high 35 points with 15 rebounds, one steal and one assist. Junior captain Kevin Dehbashian registered 18 points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals, junior Arthur Ambaryan contributed 13 rebounds, eight points, four assists, one block and one steal, and junior Kamran Alborzian produced seven points, six rebounds, one steal and one assist. Junior Areg Aslanyan had seven rebounds, three assists, two points and two blocks, while sophomore Anthony Jawiche was credited with an assist.

Burroughs (13-10 overall, 4-5 in league) will visit Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta for a league game on Jan. 23 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Hoover High of Glendale on Jan. 26. Burbank (5-18, 1-8) visits Pasadena High for a league game on Jan. 23 at 5:15 p.m. before hosting Crescenta Valley High on Jan. 26.

BURROUGHS

The Bears lost at Arcadia 70-54 in a league game on Jan. 16 as Kardosh poured in 13 points with three rebounds, three assists and one block.

Topp registered 11 points, two steals, two assists and one rebound, and Everhart tallied 10 points, six blocks, three rebounds and two assists Samontina contributed eight points, three assists, two rebounds, one block and one steal, Payind produced seven points, three assists, two steals, two rebounds and one block, and Orjuela scored five points.

BURBANK

Burbank High School junior Aren Malekian scored five points during a Pacific League matchup against Glendale on Jan. 16.

The Bulldogs lost to visiting Glendale 62-56 in a league game on Jan. 16.

Blankson posted a double-double with 26 points, 16 rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Alborzian poured in 16 points with four assists, one block and one steal. Ambaryan registered seven rebounds, six points, three steals, two blocks and two assists, junior Aren Malekian chipped in five points and two rebounds, and Aslanyan tallied five rebounds, three points and one steal. Dehbashian recorded five rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal, while junior Rami Khozahi had one block.
