Burroughs, Burbank Battle in Tournaments

The Burroughs High School varsity boys’ basketball team lost to Sierra Canyon High of Chatsworth 92-46 in its Santa Barbara Tournament opener on Dec. 27.

Senior Chase Kardosh poured in 14 points, three steals, two rebounds and one block, junior captain Jagger Topp registered nine points, six assists, four rebounds and one steal, and senior Omar Payind tallied seven points, two rebounds and two assists. Junior Jacob Samontina finished with six points and one assist, while junior Landon Everhart scored six points. Sophomore Evan Baker recorded five rebounds, two points, one block and one assist, while junior Elijah Orjuela chipped in two points, one rebound and one assist. Senior Arthur Gabrieylan contributed two rebounds and two assists, senior Francesco Sabato produced one steal and sophomore Evan Lanier had one rebound.

The Bears picked up a 63-54 Pacific League victory at Hoover High in Glendale on Dec. 21.

Kardosh racked up 20 points and six rebounds, while Topp posted a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Orjuela registered nine points and two assists, freshman Owen Everhart finished with seven points and six rebounds, and Sabato tallied six points and one rebound. Junior Damian Arredondo chipped in four points and one rebound, while Landon Everhart contributed six rebounds and three points. Gabrieylan produced two points, two assists and two rebounds, while Samontina had three assists and two points.

Burroughs (8-5 overall, 2-2 in league) will host South Pasadena for a nonleague game on Jan. 2 at 5 p.m. before resuming league play at Muir High in Pasadena on Jan. 4.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs lost to North High of Torrance 57-32 in a St. Francis Holiday Classic game on Dec. 27.

Burbank High School junior Rami Khozahi had four rebounds during a St. Francis Holiday Classic matchup against North High on Dec. 27.

Junior Odartey Blankson poured in 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, while junior Areg Aslanyan contributed eight points, six rebounds, one steal and one assist. Junior Kamran Alborzian chipped in four points, three steals and two rebounds, sophomore Cristopher Ong tallied three points two rebounds, one steal and one assist, and junior Arthur Ambaryan recorded four rebounds, two points and one assist. Junior Rami Khozahi collected four rebounds, junior Aren Malekian finished with one steal and one assist, and senior captain Beckett Sandaas had one block.

Burbank suffered a 73-69 loss against St. Bonaventure High of Ventura in its tournament opener on Dec. 26.

Alborzian registered 20 points, four assists and one steal, Blankson finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, two assists and one steal, and sophomore Cristopher Ong tallied 18 points, three assists, two steals and two rebounds. Junior captain Kevin Dehbashian recorded eight points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal, Ambaryan registered four rebounds, three assists and two points, and Aslanyan produced three rebounds, two points and one assist.

The Bulldogs lost at Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta 71-60 in a Pacific League game on Dec. 21, as Blankson poured in 27 points.

Dehbashian chipped in 10 points, Alborzian scored eight points and Ong contributed seven points. Sophomore Anthony Jawiche recorded six points, while Ambaryan had two points.

Burbank (4-12, 1-4) will host Hoover High of Glendale for a league game on Jan. 4 at 6:45 p.m. before visiting Eastside High in Lancaster for a nonleague game on Jan. 6.
