Community Celebrates Christmas Tree, Menorah Lighting

Mayor Konstantine Anthony jump-started the holiday season last Saturday at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting event at City Hall. Community members and city leaders joined in to witness the tree lighting under the illuminated facade of City Hall, which was accompanied by performances from the kindergarten class of St. Robert Bellarmine School, a vocal chorale from St. Leon Armenian Cathedral, dancers from GeneRaTion DCD, and of course, a visit from Santa Claus.

Tonight, Chabad of Burbank will hold the yearly menorah lighting of the 10-foot menorah at City Hall. The event is expected to be attended by City Council members and will include brief remarks about the holiday and its universal message by religious leaders. Attendees will enjoy traditional jelly doughnuts, hot latkes and applesauce, Hanukkah chocolate coins for the children, and Jewish singing and dancing.

Hanukkah is a festival of victory and celebration, highlighted by the kindling of menorah candles for each night of the holiday. “It is a holiday replete with traditions, with displays of Jewish pride and unity,” said Rabbi Shmuly Kornfeld, director of Chabad of Burbank.
