Burroughs Cruises to Unbeaten Start

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ basketball team was edged by Sotomayor High of Los Angeles in overtime 60-59 in their Bravo Tournament finale on Nov. 16. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

The Bulldogs picked up a hard-fought 77-68 double-overtime victory against Marshall High of Los Angeles in a tournament game on Nov. 15, as junior captain Kevin Dehbashian scored 39 points and tallied five steals, four rebounds and three assists.

Junior Kamran Alborzian racked up 12 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals, while sophomore Anthony Jawiche registered 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal. Junior Rami Khozahi tallied seven points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks, while sophomore Cristopher Ong finished with five points, four steals, three rebounds and three assists. Junior Areg Aslanyan contributed seven rebounds, four points, two assists and one block, while senior Beckett Sandaas had two rebounds and one steal.

Burbank lost to Bravo High of Los Angeles 54-40 in a tournament game on Nov. 14 as Dehbashian recorded 17 points.

Jawiche chipped in nine points, while Alborzian scored seven points. Sandaas produced three points, while junior Arthur Ambaryan and Ong each had two points.

The Bulldogs lost to Hamilton High of Los Angeles 70-67 in their tournament and season opener on Nov. 13.

Dehbashian amassed 28 points, six rebounds, two steals and one assist, while Alborzian racked up 26 points, four rebounds, one steal, one block and one assist. Khozahi registered eight points, six rebounds and one assist, Ong tallied three points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals, and Aslanyan finished with three rebounds, two points and one assist. Jawiche recorded six rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Sandaas had two rebounds.

Burbank (1-3 overall) will open Pacific League action at Muir High in Pasadena on Dec. 5 at 5:15 p.m. before visiting Glendale on Dec. 8.

BURROUGHS

The Bears defeated Mesrobian High of Pico Rivera, 98-39, and University High of Los Angeles, 73-42, in a pair of Westside Tip-Off Classic games on Nov. 20 and 18. Burroughs also picked up a 97-54 nonleague victory over visiting Van Nuys on Nov. 16. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.

Burroughs (4-0) will compete in the Rose City Classic starting with a matchup against Providence High of Burbank on Nov. 28 at 3:45 p.m.
