Bears Romp Arcadia in Battle for League’s Top Spot

The Burroughs High School varsity football team routed host Arcadia 41-7 in a Pacific League match on Oct. 12.

Senior quarterback Chris Kulikov completed 13 of 18 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns, and accumulated 31 yards rushing and one touchdown on six carries. Senior co-captain Jake Scozzola contributed with seven catches for a team-high 96 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Noah Frenkel tallied a team-high 95 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries.

Senior co-captain Santiago Sanchez recorded five carries for 55 yards, including a touchdown, while senior co-captain Ethan Hubbell added two catches for 52 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Matteo Tarca scored five extra-point attempts and had four carries for 22 yards.

Senior co-captain Ryan Hernandez made three receptions for 62 yards, while senior Roberto Gutierrez rushed for 49 yards on six carries. Junior Patrick Lima made a 21-yard catch, while junior Julian Zubia had two carries for 6 yards.

The first-place Bears (7-1 overall, 3-0 in league) hosted Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta on Oct. 20; the league game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. Burroughs will take on Burbank in the “Big Game” at Memorial Field on on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m to conclude regular season play. The CIF Southern Section playoff brackets will be released on Oct. 29 at 10 a.m.
