Bulldogs Top Glendale, Bears Shut Out Pasadena

The Burbank High School varsity girls’ tennis team defeated visiting Hoover High of Glendale 12-6 in a Pacific League contest on Oct. 3.

No. 1 Sena Hammel swept her matches with scores of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-0, while No. 2 Mira Hammel also secured a sweep with identical scores of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-0. No. 3 Daphne Harbaugh won two sets with scores of 6-1 and 6-0.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Brianna Kobramasihi and Chihiro Kato swept their matches with scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0. The No. 2 pairing of Molly Foenander and Jessica Han contributed with a 6-1 victory.

The Bulldogs previously lost at Arcadia 14-4 in a league matchup on Sept. 28.

No. 1 Sena Hammel won a set, 6-0, No. 3 Harbaugh won a set, 6-2 and No. 2 Mira Hammel won a set, 6-4. Meanwhile, the No. 1 doubles team of Kobramasihi and Chase Harris won a set, 7-5.

Burbank will host Muir High of Pasadena for a league match on Oct. 10 at 3:45 p.m. before visiting Glendale on Oct. 12.

BURROUGHS

The Bears lost at Arcadia 15-3 in a Pacific League showdown on Oct. 3.

No. 1 Hannah Lewis won a pair of sets with 6-2 and 6-1 scores, while No. 3 Leslie Femenias won a set with a 7-5 score.

Burroughs shut out visiting Pasadena 18-0 in a league match on Sept. 28.

In singles play, No. 1 Lewis earned a clean sweep with three consecutive 6-0 wins. No. 2 Abigail Stell won a set, 6-0, before alternating with Hannah Mendoza, who collected a pair of 6-0 victories. No. 3 Femenias swept her matches with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0.

In the doubles matches, the No. 1 team of October Siems and Ashley Sinovai won two sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-1 before alternating with Pearl Base and Mela Gainer, who contributed with a 6-0 win. The No. 2 duo of Ava Marye and Alexandria Stoliker swept their matches with scores of 6-1, 7-5 and 6-0. The No. 3 pairing of Sophia Luna Garcia and Dana Pitsker secured two sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-1. Luna Garcia alternated with Rachel Payne, and the new pairing with Pitsker added a 6-4 victory.

Burroughs will host Glendale for a league match on Oct. 10 at 3:30 p.m. before visiting Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta on Oct. 12.
