Unbeaten Burroughs Wins Third Straight

The Burroughs High School varsity football team continued its impressive start to the season with a 20-3 nonleague victory at St. Genevieve High in Panorama City on Sept. 1.

Senior quarterback Chris Kulikov completed 8 of 14 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 40 yards on eight carries. Junior Rocco Mellilo also had a chance in the passing game, completing two passes for 47 yards and one touchdown.

Senior captain Alex Valenzuela made two touchdown catches for 31 total yards, while senior captain Ethan Hubbell had two receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown.

Senior captain Jake Scozzola made four catches for 89 yards, while senior captain Ryan Hernandez had two receptions for 40 yards with five tackles. Senior Noah Frenkel rushed for 43 yards on 11 carries with four tackles, senior Santiago Sanchez had 10 carries for 43 yards with a team-high seven tackles, and sophomore Matteo Tarca went 2-for-3 in PAT attempts.

Senior Anthony Rodriguez, senior Sonny Arana and junior Colin Jimenez each recorded four tackles while senior Reese Shuton tallied three tackles. Senior Stefan Constantinescu and junior Patrick Lima each finished with two tackles while senior Jon Egurrola, senior Adrian Sanchez and junior Julian Zubia each had one tackle.

The Bears (3-0 overall) hosted La Cañada for a nonleague contest on Sept. 8; the game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. JBHS will visit Village Christian High in Sun Valley for a nonleague game on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. before opening Pacific League action against Pasadena on Sept. 29.
