Burroughs Sweeps Hoover in League Opener

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ volleyball team swept visiting Hoover High of Glendale in its Pacific League opener on Tuesday. Individual statistics and set scores were not reported to the Burbank Leader by the JBHS coaching staff.

The Bears previously lost a nonleague match against visiting Taft High of Woodland Hills, 16-25, 19-25, 22-25. Sophomore Savana Lay racked up 18 assists, sophomore Khloe Pavia finished with five kills and freshman Nasiyah Chapman tallied nine digs.

JBHS (5-4 overall, 1-0 in league) will host a pair of league matchups next week against Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta on Tuesday and Muir High of Pasadena on Thursday.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs lost to visiting Pasadena in four games, 13-25, 26-24, 13-25, 16-25, in their Pacific League opener on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs previously hosted the two-day Burbank Tournament and suffered losses against Westridge School of Pasadena, Lighthouse Christian High of Santa Monica, Village Christian High of Sun Valley, Brentwood School of Los Angeles and Rio Mesa High of Oxnard. Individual statistics were not reported by the coaching staff.

Burbank (0-9 overall, 0-1 in league) will host Glendale in a league match on Tuesday before visiting Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta on Thursday.
