Burbank Man Arrested in Brand Mall Bomb Threat

By City News Service

A 22-year-old Burbank man was taken into police custody Friday after he was arrested in connection with a bomb threat at The Americana at Brand Mall in Glendale involving a suspicious toilet.

The suspect was arrested for making a false bomb threat, said Glendale Police Department Sgt. Victor Jackson.

Police were called at 8 p.m. on Thursday regarding an object found at the mall that resembled a toilet with a note attached indicating that it was a bomb, Jackson said.

Mall security and Glendale police evacuated the area and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad was called for assistance and responded around 9:10 p.m. Thursday, according to a sheriff’s department spokeswoman.

Using witness accounts and security video footage, police identified the suspect and took him into custody, Jackson said.

Just after 11 p.m. on Thursday, the LASD Bomb Squad declared the device and the area safe and the evacuation was lifted, police said.
