Local Athletes Compete in League Prelims

The Burroughs and Burbank varsity boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed in the Pacific League prelims at Arcadia High School last weekend.

BURROUGHS

Senior Lindsey Mazarei won the girls’ 100-meter hurdles with a 17.16 time. Senior Dilan Webster won the boys’ 100 with an 11.20 time while junior Ethan Hubbell was sixth with an 11.71 mark. Junior Jake Scozzola was 13th with an 11.93 mark, junior Ryan Hernandez placed 16th with a 12.05 time, and senior Danny Pompa (21st, 12.29), senior Jarrod Dilig (24th, 12.53) and junior Thomas Mahoney (25th, 12.54) finished less than a second apart.

Sophomore Quiana Laughlin finished as the girls’ 100 runner-up with a 12.93 time. Freshman Zoe Ben-Yair was sixth with a 13.38 time while junior Jailyn Turner (13.51) and junior Luna Flate (14.36) placed 10th and 16th, respectively. Junior Simone Carter rounded out the race in 23rd with a 17.50 mark. Sophomore Isabella Galustians (5:24.16) and senior Vivienne Cannon (5:27.70) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the girls’ 1,600 while junior Mackenzie Monahan was 12th with a 5:52.05 time.

Hernandez (fifth, 24.36), junior Jaelin Smith (sixth, 23.90) and Scozzola (seventh, 23.96) each placed within the top 10 in the boys’ 200 while junior Jeremy Jitendran (25.60) and Mahoney (25.86) were 15th and 18th, respectively. Ben-Yair (27.95) and Turner (27.98) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the girls’ 200 while Flate was 20th with a 30.27 mark.

Junior Nicholas Delgado (4:52.93) placed 19th in the boys’ 1,600 while senior David Thompson was 39th with a 5:35.88 mark. Mazarei finished fourth in the girls’ 300 hurdles with a 53.18 time while senior Nicholas Gonzalez (44.58) and junior Luke Martinez (46.21) placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the boys’ 300 hurdles.

Galustians was seventh in the girls’ 400 with a 1:04.92 time while Jitendran was 13th in the boys’ 400 with a 59.76 mark. Delgado placed 14th in the boys’ 800 with a 2:17.48 time while Thompson (2:38.98) was 23rd.

BURBANK

Sophomores Sophia Maliwanag (17.81) and Ryan Bragg (17.82) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles. Junior Caleb Fraley finished as the boys’ 200 runner-up with a 23.61 mark while junior Daniel Schenk (10th, 24.37), senior David Portugal (12th, 25.15) and junior Isaac Otero (13th, 25.20) each finished within the top 15. Junior Maxwell LeSane was 16th with a 25.71 time while juniors Emerick George Roe (26.61) and Wyatt James Lorimer (27.19) placed 22nd and 23rd, respectively.

Schenk was third in the boys’ 400 with a 53.95 mark, Portugal (56.06) and LeSane (56.37) placed eighth and ninth, respectively, and Lorimer finished 14th with a 1:01.30 time. Senior Kennedy Bruce (third, 27.72) and freshman Emily Shirvanian (ninth, 28.30) each finished within the top 10 in the girls’ 200 while junior Juliette Lambert (14th, 28.85), senior Gabie Becker (17th, 29.72) and junior Svetlana Mkrtchyan (19th, 29.91) finished within the top 20. Sophomore Laressa Ottosson placed 21st with a 30.29 mark.

Junior Ashley Sosa (fourth, 2:36.64) and senior Nicole Mireles (10th, 2:46.71) each finished within the top 10 of the girls’ 800. Bragg was third in the girls’ 300 hurdles with a 52.10 mark while junior Quint Bastian (44.45) and senior Maxwell Harmon (46.25) placed fourth and eighth, respectively, in the boys’ 300 hurdles.

Bruce (13.05) and Shirvanian (13.38) placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in the girls’ 100. Junior Polien Abovian (13.59) was 11th while Becker (14.33) and junior Cassandra Ayala (14.71) placed 15th and 20th, respectively. Senior Kai Sebastian (fifth, 11.50) and Fraley (10th, 11.83) each finished within the top 10 of the boys’ 100.

Otero (12.04) was 15th, senior Koji Nakazawa (12.08) and junior Leonardo Nishahov (12.10) placed 17th and 18th, respectively, and Roe was 28th with a 13.02 time.

Lambert (1:04.47) finished sixth in the girls’ 400 while Mkrtchyan (1:06.23) and Ottosson (1:07.72) were 10th and 11th, respectively. Sosa (5:45.47) and Mireles (5:57.57) finished the girls’ 1,600 in ninth and 13th, respectively.

Junior Ricardo Mujica placed ninth in the boys’ 1,600 with a 4:39.19 mark while senior Ejmin Hartoonian (4:55.64) and junior Sanjay Dhamodharan (4:57.84) were 21st and 25th, respectively. Senior Isaac Arroyo (5:02.07) and junior Maxime Slek (5:04.53) were 28th and 29th, respectively, senior Christopher Camarena was 33rd with a 5:18.14 time and junior William Klein (5:33.12) placed 37th. Hartoonian was 15th in the boys’ 800 with a 2:21.00 time while Arroyo (2:26.17) and Slek (2:27.77) finished 19th and 21st, respectively.
