City Raises Human Trafficking Awareness

First published in the Feb. 11 print issue of the Burbank Leader.

The Burbank City Council declared February as Human Trafficking Awareness month at its Jan. 31 meeting, in recognition of the thousands of people who go missing each year in California as a result of human trafficking. Gloria Salas, the lieutenant governor of the Zonta Club of Burbank, said: “The reality is that human trafficking occurs every day of every month of every year. … Since the pandemic and people’s reliance on digital devices, other avenues for grooming have been created, specifically in the online sex exploitation of teens and children.” Pictured (from left) are Mayor Konstantine Anthony, Councilwoman Nikki Perez, Lynn Lipinski and Salas.
