Bears, Bulldogs Compete in League Prelims

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ water polo team defeated Glendale, 13-5, in a Pacific League Tournament prelim game on Tuesday.
Senior Nancy Baylor scored a game-high seven goals while senior goalie Mindy Hernandez registered nine saves. Junior Anastasia Zubkoff tallied a pair of goals while sophomores Audrey Willett, Diana Garcia, Ava Tomlinson and Sarah Metry each scored one goal.
League champion JBHS (14-7 overall, 7-0 in league) recently battled tournament host Arcadia in its tournament finale; the game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The CIF-Southern Section playoff brackets will be released Saturday at 9 a.m.

The Bulldogs lost to Muir High of Pasadena, 7-5, in a Pacific League Tournament prelim game on Tuesday.
Seniors Rebecca Zakarian and Valentina Angel each scored a pair of goals while sophomore Frida Mejia had one goal.
Eighth-place Burbank (6-15 overall, 0-7 in league) recently battled Pasadena in its tournament finale; the game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue.
