Burroughs Beat Burbank in Rivalry Matchup

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ water polo team defeated visiting rival Burbank, 18-6, in a Pacific League game on Wednesday.
JBHS senior Nancy Baylor racked up a game-high 10 goals while junior teammate Anastasia Zubkoff tallied four goals. Senior Mindy Hernandez, sophomore Olivia Dominguez, sophomore Diana Garcia and sophomore Ava Tomlinson each added one goal for the Bears.
Burbank senior Valentina Angel registered a team-high four goals while senior teammates Makala Kelley and Rebecca Zakarian each had one goal.
The first-place Bears will take a perfect 7-0 record (18-6 overall) into league prelims next week while the Bulldogs remained winless in league competition with an 0-7 record (6-13 overall). League prelims will be held at Arcadia High School beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 31, and the league finals will be on Thursday, Feb. 2.

BURROUGHS

Burbank High School senior Elen Amiryan and the Bulldogs will compete in the Pacific League prelims at Arcadia High School next week.

The Bears saw their three-game winning streak end after losing at La Cañada, 11-6, in a nonleague game last Saturday. Baylor recorded three goals, Dominguez, sophomore Sarah Metry and Zubkoff each scored once, and Hernandez made seven saves.
JBHS edged visiting Arcadia, 14-13, last Friday to become the last unbeaten league team ahead of prelims next week. Baylor racked up a game-high eight goals while Hernandez tallied eight saves. Sophomore Audrey Willett scored a pair of goals while sophomore Giselle Janczewski and Zubkoff each had one goal.
Burroughs previously routed visiting Pasadena in a league matchup, 27-1, as Baylor amassed a game-high 14 goals. Hernandez made five saves while sophomore Siahni Suarez and Zubkoff each produced three goals. Tomlinson had two goals while Willett, Dominguez, Garcia, Metry and Janczewski each scored one goal.

BURBANK

The Bulldogs lost a league game at Arcadia, 20-8, last week. Kelley recorded three goals, Angel scored a pair of goals, and sophomore Rose Ilangesyan, sophomore Frida Mejia and Zakarian each had one goal.
