Bulldogs, Bears Ready for Rematch This Week

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ basketball team lost at Pasadena, 67-47, in a Pacific League matchup on Tuesday as senior captain Sattwik Banerjee collected 29 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Senior Steven Harutyunian registered five points, four rebounds and one assist, senior Ashot Danielian tallied four points, two rebounds and one block, and freshman Evan Baker finished with three points and two rebounds. Junior Omar Payind produced two points, four rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal, junior Mike Gutierrez recorded two points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal, and senior Dante Shahbazian scored two points with two rebounds and two assists. Meanwhile, sophomore Kevin Dehbashian had one rebound.
The Bulldogs previously lost a league game against visiting Arcadia, 71-64, as Banerjee amassed a game-high 32 points, eight rebounds, two steals and one block. Payind poured in 13 points with two rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal, Harutyunian registered nine points, four rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal, and Shahbazian tallied six points, three rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Dehbashian finished with two points, one rebound and one assist, Gutierrez posted two points, two assists, one steal and one rebound, and senior Nathan Figueroa had one steal.
Fifth-place Burbank hosted last-place Hoover High of Glendale in a league rematch yesterday; the game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Bulldogs (8-14 overall, 4-7 in league) will visit Glendale for a league matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 31, before visiting rival Burroughs for their regular season finale on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Burroughs High School’s Elden Jackson and the Bears will visit Arcadia for a Pacific League matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 5 p.m.

The Bears recently lost a pair of Pacific League games at Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta, 80-55, and against visiting Muir High of Pasadena, 70-65. Individual statistics were not reported to the Burbank Leader.
Seventh-place JBHS hosted first-place Pasadena yesterday; the game ended after the Burbank Leader’s press deadline and will be included in next week’s issue. The Bears (9-16 overall, 3-8 in league) will visit Arcadia for a league matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 31, before hosting rival Burbank for their regular-season finale on Thursday, Feb. 2.
