Bears Win League Opener; Bulldogs Fall to Muir

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ water polo team was edged by visiting Birmingham High of Lake Balboa, 8-7, in a nonleague game on Wednesday.
Sophomore Ava Tomlinson produced a pair of goals while senior Nancy Baylor, junior Anastasia Zubkoff, sophomore Audrey Willett, sophomores Olivia Dominguez and Diana Garcia each scored once.
The Bears dominated visiting Glendale, 18-6, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday as Baylor racked up a game-high eight goals. Senior goalie Mindy Hernandez registered six saves, Willett, Zubkoff and Tomlinson each tallied three goals, and sophomore Siahni Suarez finished with one goal.
JBHS won their league opener by downing host Hoover High in Glendale, 17-6, as Baylor amassed 10 goals. Willett recorded four goals while Zubkoff, Suarez and Dominguez each produced one goal.
Burroughs (8-6 overall, 2-0 in league) will visit Muir High in Pasadena for a league matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 3:30 p.m.

BURBANK

Burbank High School senior Karina Ghukasyan recorded one goal and one assist during a Pacific League game against Muir High on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs lost to visiting Muir High of Pasadena, 17-13, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.
Senior Valentina Angel racked up seven goals, three steals and two assists while senior Elen Amiryan registered 10 saves, two assists and two steals. Senior Makala Kelley tallied two goals, four steals and two assists while sophomore Frida Mejia scored two goals with one assist. Sophomore Lizzie Bislamyan produced one goal and two steals while senior Karina Ghukasyan recorded one goal and one assist. Senior Rebecca Zakarian collected two steals and two assists while junior Natalie Bislamyan finished with two steals and one assist.
Burbank previously lost a Pacific League game at Pasadena, 14-11, as Angel registered five goals and two assists. Amiryan finished with 13 saves, four assists and one steal, Ghukasyan tallied two goals, three assists and one steal, and Kelley scored a pair of goals. Mejia produced one goal, one steal and one assist, Bislamyan recorded one goal and one steal, and Zakarian had one steal.
Burbank (6-9 overall, 0-3 in league) will visit Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta for a league matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 3:30 p.m.
