Bulldogs, Bears Compete in Tournaments

The Burbank High School varsity boys’ basketball team lost to visiting Pasadena High School, 58-44, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday.
Senior captain Sattwik Banerjee scored a game-high 24 points and junior Omar Payind poured in 18 points, including three 3-pointers. Meanwhile, junior Mike Gutierrez added two points.
The Bulldogs finished competing in the San Gabriel Tournament with a 66-52 loss to Alhambra last Friday, as senior Nathan Figueroa registered 18 points. Sophomore Kevin Dehbashian scored 13 points while senior Dante Shahbazian tallied nine points. Payind finished with six points, senior Ashot Danielian produced four points and senior Steven Harutyunian had two points.
Burbank previously lost a tournament game to Temple City, 61-57, as Banerjee amassed 28 points, five rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Payind racked up 14 points, three assists and one steal while Danielian poured in 10 points with four steals. Gutierrez tallied two points, four boards, two assists and one steal, Figueroa scored three points, and Harutyunian collected six rebounds and one assist. Shahbazian had two boards, one block and one assist, senior Liam Baker produced two rebounds and Dehbashian posted one board.
The Bulldogs (5-11 overall, 1-4 in league) will continue league action by hosting Glendale on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 5 p.m.

BURROUGHS

Burroughs High School’s Elden Jackson scored seven points during a Pacific League game against Crescenta Valley High this week.

The Bears lost to visiting Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta, 64-53, in a Pacific League game on Tuesday, as Sam Horning racked up 21 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Chase Kardosh sank four 3-pointers with four boards, Landon Everheart registered six points, 14 rebounds, two steals and two assists, and Elden Jackson scored seven points with one assist. Jagger Topp tallied five points, seven assists, four boards and one steal while Tyrell Burrell recorded two points and two rebounds. Jacob Samontina collected two assists while Arthur Gabrieylan had one board.
JBHS finished competing in the South Pasadena Tournament with a 68-55 loss against Glendale High School last Friday, as Horning amassed 26 points. Kardosh poured in 13 points, Topp scored seven points, Samontina finished with five points, and Everheart and Jackson each had two points.
The Bears previously lost a tournament game to Independence High of Bakersfield, 57-48. Kardosh registered 11 points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists, Horning produced nine points, six boards and four assists, and Everheart totaled eight points, eight rebounds and one assist. Jackson scored seven points with four assists and two boards, Samontina finished with five points, two rebounds and two steals, and Burrell recorded five points, three boards three assists and two steals. Elijah Orjuela produced three points and one rebound while Gabrieylan had two boards.
Burroughs (8-8 overall, 2-2 in league) will visit Pasadena for a league game today at 7:30 p.m. before hosting Arcadia in a league game on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
