Bears, Bulldogs Pick Up Season-Opening Wins

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ basketball team routed visiting Hueneme High of Oxnard, 53-14, in its nonleague season opener on Monday.
Freshman Malia Harney led the team with 13 points, three rebounds and three steals, while freshman Valentina Morales registered 10 points, four boards, two assists and one block. Senior Izzy Roderick produced a team-high seven steals with four rebounds and three points, while senior Ivana Razov posted a team-high five rebounds, sunk a 3-pointer, had a pair of blocks and added two steals. Senior Kylee Indefenzo scored six points with four assists and three steals, junior Karly Geris tallied four points, four rebounds and two steals, freshman Elizabeth Amoroso finished with four points, one board and one block, and sophomore Mariam Fahs had four points, three rebounds, two steals and one block. Senior Rachel Little drained a 3-pointer with a pair of rebounds and an assist, sophomore Skylar Cafferty recorded two points, two assists, one steal and one rebound, and junior Natalie Sanchez had three rebounds, made a free-throw and added a block.
The Bears will compete in the Battle of the Beach Tournament against West High of Torrance on Monday, Nov. 21.

BURBANK
The Bulldogs narrowly defeated Saugus, 44-40, in their season opener at the Westlake Tournament on Monday, as Karen Casillas racked up a double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Sahara Jackson registered five points and three assists, while Rheanna Ocampo scored seven points. Nikaela Damasen tallied four points and six boards, while Lauren Navarro had three points.
Burbank will compete in the Muir Tournament on Monday, Nov. 21.
