Bears, Bulldogs Compete in League Tournament

The Burroughs High School varsity boys’ water polo team won their regular season finale by defeating Hoover High of Glendale, 13-7, on the second day of the Pacific League tournament on Thursday. Harrison Zekowski produced four goals, Harrison Siegel and Ian Duffield each collected three goals, and Atticus Mata, Jonah DuFour and Logan Turla each scored once.
Burroughs routed Pasadena, 14-1, in the preliminary round of the league tournament on Tuesday. Zekowski and Siegel each registered five goals, while Ryan Rolando, Turla, Nicola Nasev and Winston Bromhead each added one goal.
JBHS finished the campaign fourth in league with a 5-4 record (11-13 overall). The CIF-SS playoff brackets will be released on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 9 a.m.

For a second consecutive season, Burbank was undefeated after beating second-place Arcadia, 14-11, in the Pacific League tournament Thursday night. They finished with a spotless 9-0 record (26-2 overall) but moved to sixth in the league standings on account of an unspecified CIF rule violation, according to an email sent to Burbank High School families.
Senior Zack Gezalyan racked up a game-high 10 goals while junior goalie Alec Chalkdzhyan collected 13 saves in the cage. Junior Arthur Saryan finished with two goals, one steal and one assist, sophomore Danny Agazaryan produced three steals, one goal and one assist, and sophomore Eric Avetisyan scored once. Junior Hayk Atanasyan tallied four assists and one steal, while junior Andranik Bilbulyan had three steals and one assist.
Burbank defeated Crescenta Valley High of La Crescenta, 9-6, in the preliminary round on Tuesday, as Avetisyan racked up five goals and two steals.
Saryan posted two goals, one steal and one assist, Gezalyan finished with three steals, two assists and one goal, and Agazaryan registered one goal, two assists and one steal. Chalkdzhyan recorded eight saves, Atanasyan had five steals and two assists, and Bilbulyan registered two steals and one assist.
