Bears Fall in First Round, Bulldogs Miss CIF

The Burroughs High School varsity girls’ volleyball team lost its CIF-SS Division IV first-round matchup at Santa Barbara, 25-16, 25-12, 25-15.
Senior Janessa Wareebor, senior Elizabeth Johnson and junior Sadie Lomet each tallied four kills.
JBHS concluded the regular season with a nonleague loss against visiting Taft High of Woodland Hills, 25-21, 25-21, 25-14, last Friday. Johnson registered six kills, junior Tawnie Ohrt had five kills and senior Kara Aldana-Pere finished with four kills.
The Bears previously lost their Pacific League finale at Glendale, 25-14, 23-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-6. Wareebor amassed 11 kills and 22 digs, while Ohrt racked up 11 kills and 19 digs. Lomet collected 11 kills, while senior Jessica Real recorded 17 digs.
The Bears finished the campaign fourth in the Pacific League standings with a 5-5 record (8-17 overall).

The Bulldogs ended the season on a three-match win streak after defeating visiting Pasadena last week in a tight four-set match. Burbank, which finished fifth in league with a 5-5 record (9-19 overall), narrowly missed a CIF-SS postseason berth behind fourth-place Burroughs High.
Jolene Ngo led the team in digs (318) and aces (42), while Jazmine Cobb registered a team-high 95 kills with 175 digs and 28 aces. Alyssa Ponsones recorded a team-high 142 assists with 102 digs and 16 aces, while Quinn Cramer led the team with 94 blocks and added 93 kills. Isabella Barska collected 134 assists, 66 digs and 15 aces, Astoria Torres tallied 50 kills and 32 blocks, and Raquel Fox had 49 kills and 39 aces. Olivia Romagino had 144 digs, Alison Molloy had 33 digs, 20 aces and 19 kills, and Addison Ritner produced 25 kills, 20 blocks and 19 digs. Ani Morisisyan had 59 digs and 15 aces, while Liana Issian had 29 aces and 12 digs. Yara Khozahi finished with 10 kills, 11 digs and six blocks, Samantha Arteaga posted 10 digs, seven aces and two kills, and Sara Aslo registered five digs, three kills and two aces.
