Burbank High School’s varsity boys’ soccer team ended regulation of its CIF-SS Division 6 playoff match at Monrovia in a 1-1 stalemate but ultimately lost, 5-4 in penalty kicks, on Wednesday.
Attacker Bryan Juarez scored the Bulldogs’ goal in the 50th minute, but Monrovia tied the match later in the second half.
After missing the first penalty kick, midfielder Freddy Cardenas, midfielder Erik Gharibian, attacker Narek Chobanyan and attacker Gabriel Mier scored the remaining four.
Burbank, which finished the season with a 4-3 Pacific League record (5-5 overall), tied with Pasadena for fourth place in the standings.

BURROUGHS
The Bears survived a wildcard round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs by shutting out host Santa Barbara’s Laguna Blanca High, 2-0, on Wednesday. No individual statistics were reported to the Leader.
Burroughs (5-2 Pacific League record, 7-5-1 overall) advanced to a first-round match at San Pedro Mary Star of the Sea (11-2-1 overall) Friday; the result was unavailable by the Leader’s press deadline. If the Bears won, they will play either Victorville Silverado High (13-1-4 overall) or Palmdale Highland High (7-3-5 overall) in a second-round matchup on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
