Burbank Councilmember’s ‘No’ Vote

Councilmember’s ‘No’ Vote

I voted “no” on the Zone Text Amendment because I believe it, combined with existing and proposed housing densification laws, would provide another avenue for exploitation by “flippers,” investors, LLC’s,  and housing commoditizers and would be corrosive to our community.

Recent laws have promised results such as equity, affordable housing, affordable rents and reduced homelessness, but evidence indicates that the opposite is happening. We have eye-popping home prices, a widening wealth gap, unfairness, lack of affordability, out migration, and the solidification of a system of haves and have nots. Mom and dad who’ve scrimped and saved a down payment, and any other hard-working ordinary resident, simply cannot compete.

I did not want my vote to endorse what is proving to be a string of state policy failures.

Sharon Springer

City Councilwoman
